Little Miss Colbie

I know that most of my post are about Piper. But, she is two so she says funny things and does funny things and, well, you get the picture. Today, is all about Colbie.

She is now 4 months old. She had a well check today and she weighs 14.5 lbs and she is 25.5 inches long. That puts her in the 75th percentile for both weight and height. She is facinated by her feet. She has been for weeks. She loves to stick her foot straight out in front of her, point her toes, and simply admire her feet. It is so freakin' cute. And last week, she figured out how to grab her feet. She can also grab a toy and bring it to her mouth.

This baby likes to go to bed early. If Colbie is not in bed by 9:30, she is not a very happy girl. This is the opposite of Piper, who would rather stay up all night. Colbie also loves all things that are silly- they make her laugh and show off those precious dimples.

She is not a snuggler. She would rather be looking at all the things around her than to be snuggled up against someone. Because of this, she wants to be held facing out so she can see.

She loves her sister and her daddy and me. She has a sweet disposition, but can get loud very quickly. She is the fussiest when she is tired and she always wakes up in a good mood. She is my sweet baby, Colbie Elizabeth Lovett

Colbie missed her mommy

I returned to work this weekend to help out while most the bartenders were away on a bachelorette party. I worked Saturday night and Sunday morning. I was nervous about being away from Colbie because she still eats every two hours during the day. I honestly believe it is because that is how she deals with the reflux- several small meals throughout the day rather than normal feedings. Saturday night was not as bad as I feared because, well basically, my managers rock. Matt, the girls, and his parents came and ate at the bar. I was able to take Colbie to the office and feed her on schedule while they were eating. And by the time she was due for another feeding, I was home. Sunday, however, was totally different story.

I made sure to nurse Colbie right before I left for work that morning. I arrived at work at 10:30. (Much to the surprise of my manager, Chris. I am notorious for showing up for weekend morning bar shifts 5 minutes before we open) I worked the shift, made hardly any money, and called Matt to come get me 15 minutes before 4. He informs me on the phone that Colbie had not eaten at all since I left her.

I couldn't believe it. Colbie is my little porker. She is almost 4 months old, but she wears 6-9 month clothing sizes. She loves to eat! It is her favorite past time. And then, on top of the not eating, he said that she acted depressed as much as a 4 month old can act depressed- fussy and wanting to be held constantly. That literally broke my heart.

When we arrived at the house, I opened up Colbie's car door and she smiled at me as soon as she saw my face. And for the rest of the day, she cried if I left her line of sight. Poor little Colbie. I guess you really do love mommy!

Weekend of trauma

The weekend started normal. Piper spent the night with a set of grandparents on Friday, and I picked her up close to 11 on Saturday morning. We filled up her "cold bath" (aka kiddie pool) and she splashed around while Matt so very sweetly detailed my car. Her Grandaddy (Matt's dad) came over for a visit Saturday night for a little while and after he left... all normalcy disappeared.

Colbie was fussy because she had refused to nap during the day, so I was putting her to bed. Matt was doing some work on the computer in his office and Piper was being Piper, i.e., running around from room to room trying to avoid going to bed.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of a glass bowl hitting the wood floor. It didn't break, but I could tell that someone (Piper) had dropped a bowl. And then the crying started. I headed towards the sound to see Matt carrying Piper in his arms. He explained that she had dropped a bowl on her foot. When I asked her where it hurt, she pointed to her big toe and said "Right there." I took a peek at her toe and the toe nail was already dark purple. And it was already swelling. We thought at first it was broken, but she could wiggle it and it didn't hurt if we touched it the bottom or sides of the toe.

Poor big toe

Then, on Sunday, Piper somehow, some way, got a hold of a bottle of infants ibruprofen and work the supposedly child proof cap off. Luckily, she said "Look what Piper's got" as she was licking the medicine off of the syringe that she had stuck into the bottle she had just opened.

So basically, Piper tried to break her foot and poison herself all while under the supervision of her sometimes overly cautious parents. I can already tell that it is going to be a crazy 18 years ;)

Cold Bath

Hooray for warm weather! I sometimes think it would cool to move somewhere cold, but truth be told I don't like it. At all. So to celebrate the return of summer, I bought Piper one of those little plastic pools. But, she doesn't call it a swimming pool. She crosses her arms, holding herself like someone does when they are saying "brrrrr" and says "Cold Bath". So, if you ever hear her asking for a cold bath, she wants to go swimming.

Here's a video of Piper playing in her "Cold Bath" Watch what she does when I ask her to blow me a kiss... Hilarious!

That's right. I'm a dork!

Today, I got a library card. And now I'm going to blog about it!

I know it is silly to write about a little old library card, but you just don't understand. I was literaly giddy when she handed me by card. You see, I love, love, LOVE to read. And I haven't been doing it lately because I simply don't have the money to buy all the books that I want. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks... DUH! The library lets you read for FREE!

I can't remember the last time I had a library card. I'm sure it was either in High School or Jr. High. In college, I hardly ever was able to read for pleasure unless it was reading unassigned sections of my literature books. So I am so happy to be reaquainted with my local library.

It is sad that it took me this long to tap into such a valuable resource. So very sad. But I'm all about it now!

Sleep? What is sleep?

It is 2:30 in the morning. Colbie is currently doing this.

And I though I wish this is what Piper was doing, she is not.

It is my fault that she/we are not asleep. I made the mistake of letting her go to sleep around 6 pm today. I guess I could have forced her to stay awake, but she gets pretty dramatic when she is tired. And whiney. And just plain old grouchy. So, I let her sleep. And sleep she did- till 9:30.

That being said, it comes as no surprise that she is still awake, watching The Incredibles and climbing in and out of bed with me every 15 minutes. But, I can happily report that it hasn't been too painful staying awake because I not only drank a triple venti after 4 o'clock, but I also had a grande after 8. Yay for caffeine.

All in all, though, I kinda like our late nights together. She is only going to be 2 for a little while longer, and before long she won't need me to stay up with her. Colbie probably won't ever.

Here is a picture of Miss "I have the sleep habits of a teenager" during a nap.

Kids are so precious when they sleep! Please take note of the 3 binkies that she has. One in the mouth and two in the hand. She loves her binkies. Almost as much as she loves me ;)

Adventure Number 2

It is amazing what a little incentive will get a 2 year old to do.

I've been trying to potty train Piper. To be honest, I really haven't been trying, trying, but she has had a potty since she was 18 months old and we try to get her to use it actively in spurts. While it has been evident that that she gets it, she is not interested in ditching the diapers. Does this qualify as laziness on her part? I don't know, but, since I don't want to be a tyrannt, we haven't been pushing her to use the potty that much. However, there is one little thing that can get her to sit on that potty everytime. And that would be a "treat".

Here's how it goes down.
"Mommy. I need treat"
"Well, I need Piper to go tee tee in the potty. Do you want to go tee tee in the potty?"
"I tee tee in the potty".

This scenario usually takes place after she goes to her bed. So, she'll get out of bed and run to the bathroom and amazingly enough she will use her potty. Then she very excitedly exclaims "I did it! I did it! I need treat!" And the funniest part of this little arrangement is that if she doesn't bring up the "treat" first and you ask her if she wants to go to the potty she will tell you no. Every single time.

Since I don't have a video of the afore mention cuteness I will leave you with a video that shows why you probably don't want to eat peanut butter balls at my house...
